Parents Committee
The WMHA recently formed a Parents Committee for those people who have limited time to volunteer but who still want to help hockey grow within the City of Windsor. Volunteers can pick the event they would like to be involved with.
If you are interested in becoming a member of the Parents Committee e-mail Rick Pare and let him know that you are interested.
WMHA Teams
If you are interested and want to help out on one of the 100 teams in the WMHA, simply contact one of the Team Coaches (coaches for House League have not yet been selected) or a member of the Board of Directors. You will have to fill out a Application for Adult Participation which will have to be approved. Depending on the position that you request, you may have to obtain a Police Clearance.
Convenors
The League is looking for convenors to help out. Convenors play an integral role in the administration of hockey. Convenors are selected by the three Vice Presidents of House League. Because most of the House League games are played on the weekend, it is not uncommon for 5 or 6 games to be played simultaneously in different rinks. The Convenors main function is to ensure that each team that is playing meets the pre-game requirements before taking to the ice, such as: assigning dressing rooms, making sure game sheets are prepared, certified trainers on each team, timekeepers and referees present and so on. For more information on Convenors, visit our Constitution page scroll to the WMHA Bylaws and click on Convenors.
If you are interested in becoming a Convenor, fill out an Application for Adult Participation and submit it to one of the three House League Vice Presidents.
Timekeepers
One of the more important off-ice officials are the timekeepers. Timekeepers are responsible for running the time clock and filling out the game sheet with goals, assists and penalties as the game progresses. Timekeepers must be reliable and will be required to keep time for 1, 2 or 3 consecutive games. Timekeepers are paid between $8.00 and $10.00 a game. If you are interested in becoming a timekeeper, please contact Al Iatonna for more information.
Referees
If you are interested in becoming an on-ice official, you must first register. The WMHA receives 10 openings for officials aged 14 to 19 years in the OMHA Referee School each year. The school for the 2008-09 season is now full. If you are interested in becoming an official you must send Dave Pickford an e-mail expressing your interest. If you are selected for one of the 10 spots you will be required to attend the Referee School here in Windsor. The program is ran by senior OMHA officials and will takes place September each year. Classes start after school on a Friday and end in the afternoon on the following Sunday. Participants will be instructed in the rules of the game, on ice training and early night classes. They are closely supervised and will required to stay overnight (Friday & Saturday) at a local hotel. Cost for the school is $230.00 (approximately) and is paid by the applicant. Once you graduate you will be certified to officiate games played in the WMHA. Officials are compensated for games starting at $12.00 per game. All officials are responsible for purchasing their own equipment. If you are interested in becoming an on-ice official or if you require further information, please contact Dave Pickford. Applications for the September 2009 school will be accepted in May, 2009.
If you are over the age of 19 and wish to become an on-ice official, there will be a one-day referee clinic offered in the fall each year. For more information please contact Dave Pickford.
